Welcome new and returning Escape participants! 2014 marks the 28th year for the Escape from Ft. De Soto Triathlon. To those of you who have done the event before, welcome back. To those new to the event, you may be interested to know that the park is ranked one of the top-ten beaches in the United States; nine hundred unspoiled acres surround you. First timers, we anticipate that you will have a great first triathlon at Ft. De Soto. To all, we ask that you enjoy the surroundings and please leave the park cleaner than you found it. To mark the 28th anniversary of the Escape From Ft De Soto we will follow the original course which starts from the north beach area of the park. Honoring Fort De Soto, we incorporate the stairs into the run leg of the event. Come out and celebrate the 28th year — it should be the best ever! We hope to have some athletes from the original class of 1987. Once the race sells out we will offer a limited number of Charity slots. First come, First served.
Updates: USAT Fees have gone up to $12.00 for a one day permit. Pinellas County Commissioners have voted to charge $5.00 per car to enter the park; we have made arrangements to pay this fee for each person. Please come early and in order to get in the park on time. Toll attendants will be counting cars at both southern toll booths. Remember the first wave at 7:00am EVERYONE must be out of Transition by 6:45am. The Escape from Ft De Soto Triathlon reserves the right in the event of inclement weather, emergency, or natural disaster to cancel the race or move to a later time. In the event of cancellation, there will be no refund of entry fees. However, the USAT fee, if pre-paid, will be refunded.
If you have questions about registration or the event, the best place to ask them is in the Community section of the imATHLETE registration site. The Community section is also a great place for new triathletes to ask questions about triathlon and a place for the experienced to swap pre and post-race stories. If you need a hotel room, please see the hotel specials page.
We look forward to seeing you at the event! Please enjoy the event and be safe.
